Highways and Utilities
Committee (HAUC)
Street Works Management will write guidelines on how to tackle everyday problems in the street works industry and how to gain the support of colleagues through regional HAUC groups. The report will include methods on how to offer support to others, gain local arrangements in your favour and improve your standing in the industry. This may include attendance at a regional meeting and discussions with neighbouring representatives to assist you.
HAUC began in the 1980s and is made up of representatives from the Highway Authority and Utility Company industries. The initial meetings were made up to discuss the changes of proposed new legislation after PUSWA and how to best tackle the conflicts of the past. Now they meet to discuss current issues under NRSWA and Traffic Management, reach agreements on contentious issues, have an opportunity to address new concerns and offer a forum for those who see beyond the present arrangements and into the future, such as those who want to adopt better materials or working practices. It is also an opportunity to help those who do not fully comprehend the legislation governing street works and assist you in a better way of coping in your everyday working life.
The benefits of a HAUC review by Street Works Management are:
- Achieve forerunner status
- Gain the admiration of colleagues in the industry
- Enable local problems to be resolved
- Work positively with other industry representatives
- Understand how to make a difference
